Metal Roofing Solar Reflectivity

When you look at the top of your house, the glare you see is the solar reflectivity coming off of the reflective metal roof. The solar energy from the sun hits the material from the roof and reflects back into the atmosphere. The SR value is a number from 0 to 1.0. On the low end, having a value of 0 means that the material absorbed all of the solar energy making for increased heat. On the high end, a value of 1.0 indicates that all of the solar energy has been reflected back into the atmosphere. The requirements to be Energy Star approved are that the SR value for steep slopes (above 2:12) has to be of 0.25 of higher and for low slopes (2:12 or less) 0.65 of higher.
